Jeff Collins

Owner/Director of NBA/MLB & NFL Analyst

The simplest way to describe Jeff Collins is he's a guy who loves sports, numbers, and competition. This started for him as a kid and grew over the years as he played basketball in high school and worked as a ball-boy for the Golden State Warriors. The numbers really started to become a passion for Jeff after high school as he got into coaching and began studying the sports from an analytical perspective.

Jeff has been one of the elite fantasy sports players for years now. Before DFS, he competed in the high stakes season-long leagues like the FFPC and experts leagues such as the FSTA NFL Experts Draft on SiriusXM. As prize pools and live finals started to grow a few years ago on sites like FanDuel and DraftKings, Jeff shifted his focus towards learning everything he could about DFS. After feeling confident about his skills and the measurement of his results, he felt that attacking live finals would be where he had the biggest edge…he was right. A couple weeks after making it a goal of his to qualify for his first live final, Jeff won a qualifier to the FanDuel 2015 Playboy Basketball Championship on one of his three $25 entries. Since then, he's qualified 16 times for live finals and has performed well, with a 5th place finish in the 2015 WFBBC ($30,000) and an 8th place finish in the 2015 WFBC ($75,000) among his results.

JeffElJefe (his DFS name) is known for his off-the-board contrarian calls often landing him on 1% ownership of players in tournaments. An example of this was in 2015 when he won two FanDuel WFBC tickets ($100,000 value each) on the back of a 1%-owned Charcandrick West against the tough Broncos defense. He plays the chalk players when it makes sense, but is always looking for a reason to pivot.

"Jefe" ("the boss" in Spanish), as he's referred to by friends and people in the community, worked for RotoGrinders as a broadcaster and writer until his move to FantasyGuruElite. He still does work for the guys over at StatMuse to provide them with feedback on how to make their product better for DFS players. Collins joins Tommy G, Kevin Adams, and John Hansen to form one of the most dynamic groups in the industry.

 Jefe's NBA Rundown - 2/23
Posted by Jeff Collins on Friday, February 23, 2018 - 16:59

The rundown is designed to give you an opinion on some different players or situations in the slate today. You need to be reacting to news throughout the day. Always keep an eye on Twitter for the most up-to-date information. The idea is not that you use ONLY players from this article to build your lineups, but rather all of our content from other articles, to our cheat sheets and videos along with our projections algorithm and optimizer. If you’re trying to only use players under the “cash” section to build your cash lineups for instance, you’re going to have a hard time. Instead, use some of those players as building blocks and fill in around them.

How to Take Advantage of Every Matchup in the NBA: Part 1
Posted by Jeff Collins on Thursday, February 22, 2018 - 14:45

I want to break down teams here to really quantify the difference between the matchups in the NBA. Just simply looking at a DvP (defense vs. position) chart is one of the biggest pet peeves that I have, rather you should be looking much deeper into matchups. We also need to understand the personnel that contributes to the strengths and weaknesses of a matchup so that we can adjust our thinking on the fly when an injury occurs. NBA DFS isn’t just as simple as “play guys in good matchups”, so be sure to treat this matchup info as just one of the factors that you’re looking at in your research.

 2018 NBA All-Star Game Rundown
Posted by Jeff Collins on Saturday, February 17, 2018 - 16:59

FanDuel is doing a contest for the All-Star Game where you choose one guard, one forward/center, two utilities, and one “MVP” which can be any position and that receives 1.5x points. Let me start off by saying you don’t play the All-Star game contests trying to build your bankroll; you’d just be doing it for entertainment. It’s really tough to try and project what will happen in a game like that. But I’ll provide some notes for you that could help...
