Ray Flowers

MLB/NFL Analyst

Ray Flowers has been a full-time fantasy analysist for the last 16 years – who has done that? – spending all his waking hours breaking down baseball, football and even hockey back in the day. For the past seven years, since the first day of the channel, he’s been on SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio six days a week spewing opinionated analysis with his co-host Kyle Elfrink on the SiriusXM Fantasy Drive (Sirius 210, XM 87). Known for his analytical approach, Ray eschews pitching and quarterbacks early in drafts and isn’t afraid to predict outcomes that go completely against the grain if the data leads him there. When he’s not slaying Twitter with wondrous responses filled with charm and snark, or winning FSWA Writing Awards, he can be found watching a superhero flick, taking a swim or pounding vodka Red Bull’s into the wee hours of the morning.

 DFS Hitting Breakdown - 4/10
Posted by Ray Flowers on Monday, April 10, 2017 - 12:28

A quick primer for the piece.

There will be a smattering of data, pertinent to setting your daily squad up. There will be ballpark data. Which parks favor what type of hitters? There will be some BvP data, and yes, it does matter. We will try to list some umpire data if there is anything significant to be gleaned from it. In the end, I’ll throw all the data into the hopper and try to come up with some solid daily advice on the men that swing the lumber.

 What We Have To Offer
Posted by Ray Flowers on Friday, April 7, 2017 - 16:54

https://www.fantasyguruelite.com/baseball/articles/ray-flowers-mlb-monthly-rankings-mayIt’s been a whirlwind first week with GuruElite. Just bonkers great has been the reception, special thanks to the #EliteMafia for that, and I’m settling in nicely in my new home. I know that the change has been a bit jarring to some of you out there, so in order to make the landing a softer one, I’m writing this article which will explain what I’m doing, and what the entire Elite Nation is offering, for the 2017 baseball season. Here we go.

 MLB Mailbag - Week 1
Posted by Ray Flowers on Friday, April 7, 2017 - 14:59

The plan here at GuruElite is to do a weekly mailbag article. In this edition, I’ll tackle the main question everyone has at the moment, no matter what question they are asking, and that is player valuation. Should you buy a hot start? Should you fade a slow start? What’s the value of player A or B? You know, the question you all have.

First time having Nelson Cruz and Robinson Cano on my fantasy team. They normally slow out the gate?
@JonFishin

First, it’s been less than a week. Anything that happens in less than a week means nothing as long as the player is healthy and playing.

 Ray's Ramblings - 4/7 - Arrieta, Bundy, and Graveman
Posted by Ray Flowers on Friday, April 7, 2017 - 13:00

Arrieta entered the season with some whispers of concern after a second half slowdown last year. He looked sharp the first time out. Bundy was ace-like in his first outing, throwing his slider for the first time in a long while. Can you trust the former elite prospect? Why is everyone so excited about Graveman? Are they right, or are those that hold that position a bit cracked? There’s also news on McCullers, Pomeranz, Price, Santiago and Tillman.

AN ACE LOOKING LIKE AN ACE

Jake Arrieta struggled in the second half last season, a fact I detailed in his preseason Player Profile. “Arrieta should be fine in 2017. No worries with him despite what you’ve read above, that is unless you are planning on him being an outright ace. I would just ask you to be reasonable with your expectations since “ace-dom” isn’t a lock with the Cubs’ righty. The trends are virtually all moving in the wrong direction with Arrieta, and with that level of concern banking on him as a sure-fire top-10 starting pitcher is a risky position to hold.” So far so good as he looked sharp in his first outing holding the Cardinals to one unearned run over six innings (two walks, six strikeouts). By the way, the Cubs did modify their rotation a bit. This is what it looks like now: Arrieta Sunday against the Brewers, Jon Lester goes to Monday to face off the Dodgers.
