Mike Fiers (RHP, Athletics, 52%) – Last season, Fiers sandwiched a super-hot six-week stretch between awful starts and finishes to the season. The 2018 season has been more of a mixed bag, though he has been excellent in the second half (2.10 ERA, .295 wOBAA). Fiers has been sharp through two starts with the A’s (11.1 IP – 3 ER – 0 BB – 13 K) and now lines up for two against the Rangers at home and the Twins on the road. Certainly worth bidding on for the strikeout upside, though he does have occasional bouts with gopheritis, posting a 1.52 HR/9 thus far in 2018 and a 1.88 mark last season.

A lovely 14-game slate to kick off our weekend celebration. We have the Indians and Nationals as massive favorites today against the Orioles and Marlins, respectively, both at over -300. The Indians have a whopping implied 6.1 projected Vegas run total with the other teams coming in at five or more being the Rangers (5.8), Red Sox (5.5), Angels (5.2) and Nationals (5.1). Yonny Chirinos is slated to come in for the Rays after opener Ryan Stanek. Mike Minor was scratched so it’s Drew Hutchison getting the start for the Rangers today...

A rather ugly slate of just seven games where most of the bad looks come in with the pitching side of things. No true studs on the mound today and no one who will cost you over 10k on either FD or DK. Expect chalkiness with Jon Gray on both sites, with the Rockies as small favorites (-110) on the road against the Braves. You’ll see some love for Clay Buchholz (the priciest SP on DraftKings at 9.5k) in PETCO and perhaps some more rookie Jason Nix in his second start of the year – but more so on FanDuel where he is just 6.4k there compared to a priced-up 7.3k on DraftKings...

Danny Jansen (C, Blue Jays)

Rarely do we see a catcher in the spotlight, but that is the case this week with Jansen getting the call to the majors. A toolsy, 23-year-old, Jansen is expected to stick with the big club for the remainder of the season while veteran Russell Martin gets more days off and plays some third base. Jansen can do a bit of everything – he has solid raw power (12 HR in 88 games), a bit of speed (five SB) and solid plate discipline (12% BB, 14% K, .390 OBP). So long as the Jays don’t go against their word, he is someone may be look for to get a spark in our second catcher spots in 15-team leagues or deeper.
