Just your average, run-of-the-mill seven game slate on a football Thursday. Max Scherzer sticks out in comparison to the field which means stacking Indians against James Shields in hopes of chalk-fail revenge will be tough to pull off. It is truly either-or. So if you believe Max twirls a bounce back gem like I do, you’ll have to just select a couple Indians’ one-offs. If you believe one of E-Rod, Tanaka, Boyd or other can come close to what Max will do tonight points-wise, then take the savings for your Indians’ build. Either way, expect value Rays to garner somewhat respectable chalk for Scherzer teams. Lefty Cody Reed, fresh off a 10-strikeout outing at Wrigley (in five innings) will likely be the guy folks pair with Scherzer. I’m fine with that duo in cash, but will looking for more unique builds for large-field tourneys and the KOTD Qualifier today. Let’s dig in to the hitters.

 Week 3 WR Breakdown
Posted by Vlad Sedler on Thursday, September 20, 2018 - 00:55

Michael Thomas, Saints ($8900 DK, $9000 FD) – The ultra-talented wideout has taken his game to another level and could soon reach the five-figure salary stratosphere in DFS, not to mention, end the season as the WR1. Already 28 receptions on 20 targets through two weeks and averaging 37 DKP / 27.5 FDP. Falcons-Saints games have been barnburners in the past, but with the Falcons’ offense struggling under first-year OC Steve Sarkisian and the Saints utilizing the run game more frequently, each of last year’s tilts fell under the Vegas totals (37 total points in Week 14, 40 in Week 16). The Week 3 matchup is one of the only two projected for 50-plus points and Thomas figures to continue his target-monster ways. On a slate with no Antonio Brown, Thomas is the clear number-one option among wideouts if you’re willing to pay the price.

Other teams projected for five or more runs include the Astros, Brewers and the Blue Jays are projected for five on the dot. If there is any chalk I am fading today, it is the Brewers, who are struggling offensively of late outside of MVP-candidate Christian Yelich and face a recently revived Matt Harvey.

 Vlad's Hitter Breakdown - 9/18

Tuesday’s 14-game slate does not include the Red Sox-Yankees game since they were scheduled to play earlier this morning. Today, we have the toughest high-end pitching decisions we have had to make in a very long time. I posted a Twitter poll earlier asking who people were using today – perhaps the responders aren’t DK people and haven’t factored in Blake Snell’s salary there but through 230 votes, Snell was far and away the top option (41%) compared to Kluber (29%), Nola (20%) and Strasburg (9%). Many opt to go with the lowest-owned in tourneys so if you truly believe Strasburg @ MIA falls under the radar, you may want to pounce. He is nearly 2k less than Snell on DK, is coming off a nine-strikeout outing in Citizens Bank Park against the Phillies and has a swinging-strike rate of around 12% over his last two starts (though velo is down from 95 to 93 mph). Josh James will be the most popular SP2 punt to help fit offenses in and those using him hope he can at least provide 3x in cash and puts himself in line for a win by going five innings.

Not your typical Monday slate with 12 games and loads of offensive options, both with one-offs and on the stack side. The ‘Opener’ trend continues to spread throughout MLB with both the Twins (Gabriel Moya) and the Orioles (Sean Gilmartin) employing the strategy today. With no Indians, Yankees or Red Sox on the slate, DraftKings algorithm has priced up the Tampa Bay Rays, since they have a rare 5.6 projected run total facing rookie Adrian Sampson in Arlington. The Brewers and Blue Jays should have their fair share of hefty ownership today as well.
