Rafael Devers is slated to be the third baseman of the present, and future, with the Red Sox. He had a special 58 game run with the Sox last season causing there to be an awful lot of optimism in regards to the old expectation train in 2018. Is Devers being viewed properly, or have the expectations exceeded the likely outcome for the smooth lefty swinger?

Left for dead by many last season, Sonny Gray returned to the world of the living in 2018 as he once again ascending in importance in the fantasy game (last season I was blasted for showing faith in Sonny Gray. Turned out pretty well for the few of you that listened). He pitched very well for the Athletics before being shipped to the Yankees. Now folks are back in on Gray. What should you be doing with the vertically challenged righty?

Jon Gray has a huge arm. The third overall pick in the 2013 Entry Draft has a special arm, but he pitches for the Rockies. It’s cheap to say that, so that’s why I’m writing this profile to give Gray his due, but he does pitch for the Rockies, and there’s no way around that being a huge issue to consider in the fantasy game.

Taijuan Walker has the pedigree, the talent and the frame to be an upper-end hurler. Will the addition of the humidor in Arizona allow Walker to reach the heights that many have predicted with the 25-year-old right of the D’backs?

Jose Berrios has an athleticism many pitchers lack, and the smooth mechanics befitting such an athlete. After overcoming a dreadful first run at the big-league level in 2016, Berrios blasted through batters at Triple-A and in the bigs in 2017 with a great deal of success. The future might be now for the righty of the Twins who will be looking to build on last year’s success to vault himself into the top-25 of starting pitchers in the fantasy game.

Mike Foltynewicz has an arm touched by the gods. He throws gas, and on the right day he looks stupendous. Unfortunately, there are too many wrong days for Folty when he struggles to find the strike zone and is lucky to make it into the 5th inning. Are there any signs that the awaited for breakout will occur in 2018 for the Braves’ righty?

 2018 Player Profile: Trevor Bauer

Trevor Bauer flies drones, strikes batters out, and simply does own thing. There were periods of impressive work from Bauer last season, but overall his production didn’t improve that much other than in the strikeout category. Who is he for 2018 and is there another level he can take his game to for the Indians?

Masahiro Tanaka failed to live up to expectations last season with the Yankees. It was a very uneven season for the Yankee starter who was seemingly giving up a home run every other inning. Was last season a harbinger of things to come, or is the more highly skilled player sitting right in front of your face if you ignore his 4.74 ERA?

From the waiver-wire to staring in fantasy leagues, Paul DeJong brought a power bat to the middle infield party last season. What is the outlook for the swing first, and miss a lot, middle infielder of the Cardinals who will attempt to improve on a 25-homer rookie season that included qualification at two defensive positions? Hint – be prepared to be a bit disappointed.
