Everyone loves a shiny new toy. In fantasy baseball terms, that means rookie hitters and pitchers that we fawn over and overspend for on the waiver wire.

Though some first-year hitters come out the gate red-hot, many of them inevitably hit major slumps that could negatively impact our fantasy rosters. Same goes for pitchers who step into the league with a never-before-seen arsenal, only to get exposed their second time around the big leagues. The term ‘hitting a rookie wall’ is a widely-used idiom for a reason.
