MLB Minor League Breakdown: Week 8
Dylan Cozens, OF (Phillies, Age: 23)
Cozens is the closest thing minor league baseball has to The Incredible Hulk. Well, I guess there’s Yandy Diaz, but that massive buffoon still can’t hit the ball in the air to save his life (no homers in 119 PA last year for the Indians, no homers in 111 PA this year in Triple-A). The 6’6’’, 250-pound Cozens ranks among the International League leaders in both stolen bases (seven) and home runs (seven) after crushing four of them in the span of a week, last week. That blend of speed and overbearing power at the plate can bode well for him in the majors someday if he’s able to simplify his approach at the plate and harness an undisciplined swing. After crushing 40 bombs, driving in 125 and swiping 21 bags in Double-A in 2016, Cozens fell apart in his first season in Triple-A. He hit just .210 and struck out at a 36% clip.
