 Jefe's NBA Rundown - 1/16
Posted by Jeff Collins on Monday, January 16, 2017 - 17:35

As always, the rundown is designed to give you an opinion on some different players or situations in the slate today. You need to be reacting to news throughout the day. Always keep an eye on Twitter for the most up-to-date information. The idea is not that you use ONLY players from this article to build your lineups, but rather all of our content from Benny’s article, to our cheat sheets and videos along with our projections algorithm and optimizer. If you’re trying to only use players under the “cash” section to build your cash lineups for instance, you’re going to have a hard time. Instead, use some of those players as building blocks and fill in around them...

Atlanta Hawks @ New York Knicks

Vegas:

Hawks: 10th Pace, 20th Scoring, 8th fewest points allowed

Knicks: 10th Pace, 15th Scoring, 6th Fewest points allowed

Dwight Howard - Big men have done well against the Knicks all season and we may or may not have Kristaps Porzingis in this one. I think it matters little either way as Dwight Howard has been rebounding and scoring enough to make him a solid play at the price point.

Paul Millsap - Millsap does a little bit of everything and also has a solid matchup here. The Knicks play just as fast as the Hawks do, which ensures a hot pace and the Knicks defense is suspect all around.

Kent Bazemore - Bazemore is a solid play, but when you factor in the cheap price he becomes a very solid play. Worst case he does ok for you. Best case is he gets a modest 28-32 and gives you tournament winning upside.

Due to the NFL Playoff rounds, we have a very weird slate today. I am not a big fan of locking up money in all day slates with no late swap. I would prefer to tackle the slates separately. We have three early games, 3 late ones, and one thrown in the middle for some weird reason. All the sites are handling this differently, so it makes it tough to break them all down with site specific plays, since everyone might be playing a different slate with different games. With that being said, these are the guys I highlighted on my sheet for today at each position.

Point Guard

Russell Westbrook - Can never fault anyone for putting Russ in their lineups? The guy is a walking triple double machine and the matchup with Sacramento means matchups with guys like Ty Lawson and Darren Collison. Good luck trying to stop the unstoppable force. It’s not a question of whether or not to play Westbrook, the question is who can you fit in along side of him?

Kyle Lowry - If you play the early slates, Kyle Lowry and his Raptors have the softest matchup of all the early teams. He is my guy on early lock lineups today. The Knicks play fast and lack defensive ability. Lowry is a guy who fills up a stat sheet and should do some big time scoring in what is likely to be a high total game.

Indiana Pacers @ Denver Nuggets

Vegas:

Pacers: 7th Pace, 12th Scoring, 8th most points allowed

Nuggets: 5th Pace, 6th Scoring, 3rd most points allowed

The Pacers are one of my least favorite teams to play guys from in DFS. Paul George has a solid floor but lacks upside. Jeff Teague and Myles Turner were the guys I had been targeting more often and they have been great. The problem I have now is that all three guys are priced at about $8K and that means there is very little upside left for any of them. We need 45-50 points, which all three are capable of, but it requires their ceiling games and even then it is only a 6X return on DK. This is a great matchup and those three should all be top scorers for the Pacers today, but I only have exposure on game stacks because of the price. We have better options elsewhere to use. I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them pops off a 50 fantasy point day. My Money would be on Teague or Turner to do it.
