 Jefe's NBA Rundown - 1/2
Posted by Jeff Collins on Monday, January 2, 2017 - 17:15

As always, the rundown is designed to give you an opinion on some different players or situations in the slate today. You need to be reacting to news throughout the day. Always keep an eye on Twitter for the most up-to-date information. Point Guard Cash: Westbrook, Brogdan, Wall, Rivers, GPP: Westbrook, Brogdan, Rivers, Curry, Rose, Jennings Notes: Westbrook’s price continues to fall, making him more and more tempting each slate. He’s very much in play in both cash and GPP games tonight on both sites, but I always prefer him a little more on FanDuel where the roster construction favors more of a stars and scrubs approach than DraftKings. Malcolm Brogdon appears to be the real deal and coming off of a triple-double, and even the fickle Jason Kidd would seemingly be locking him into solid minutes. I think Stephen Curry is one of the better high-risk, high-reward tourney plays tonight at his price. It will be the Brandon Jennings show for New York if Melo and Porzingis are ruled out, making him one of the better plays on the board.

Oklahoma City Thunder @ Milwaukee Bucks

Vegas: Bucks -2, O/U: 211

Thunder: 7th Pace, 8th Scoring, 13th Most points allowed

Bucks: 19th Scoring, 15th Pace, 9th fewest points allowed

Russell Westbrook - When Westbrook doesn’t get tossed out of the game, his floor is 60 and we have seen him go for 80+ a few times recently. In his last seven full games, he has not scored fewer than 61 fantasy points. He also has a 70 point and 2 80 point games along the way. He is over $12K on both sites, so even 60 is not really a monster game. He is always in play in tournaments, but I am not sure I like the rosters I build around him in cash at the price.

Giannis Antetokounmpo - Giannis is cheaper than Westbrook by about 20% and his floor is more along the lines of 50, which is 20% below the floor Westbrook has. On DK I prefer to take the savings here and on FD where he is a SG, I like using him as one of my top options today against the suspect point guard defense of OKC in a paced up game.

DET -5.0 TOT: 195.5 Favorite Play: Leuer (FD), Drummond (DK) Others: Reggie Jackson, Tobias Harris Notes: Dragic and Whiteside both questionable. You could look to Tyler Johnson and Josh Richardson if Dragic is ruled out, and Willie Reed if Whiteside can’t go. Otherwise, it’s a tough matchup for the Heat.

FanDuel really screwed up today’s slate (in my opinion) by trying to turn it into two smaller slates by including the 4PM ET game in an “Early Slate” and then not including the 7 PM and 7:30 PM games in their Main Slate. DraftKings has some great end of the year contests though, with the full slate, so I might have to jump over there tonight...

  • Vegas: Wizards -8.5, O/U: 222.5
  • Wizards: 15th Pace, 13th Scoring, 7th Most points allowed
  • Nets: Fastest Pace, 9th Scoring, 2nd Most points allowed

The entire Wizards team is in play in one of the best possible matchups in the entire NBA. If Bradley Beal misses the game due to his ankle injury, it gives a boost to the other four starters and guys like Marcus Thornton and Kelly Oubre, who will also pick up added minutes. John Wall, Marcin Gortat, Otto Porter, and Markieff Morris are all in play. I especially...

Always keep an eye on Twitter for the most up-to-date information. It’s like every other slate is a good one… Last night was awesome, but tonight we’re back to an ugly one. I will be making some pretty strong stands though, so that means I do believe there are edges to be had...

Miami Heat @ Charlotte Hornets

Vegas: Hornets -7, O/U: 201

Heat: 25th Pace, 28th Scoring, 7th Fewest points allowed

Hornets: 16th Pace, 14th Scoring, 10th Fewest points allowed

Hassan Whiteside - Whiteside has a great matchup with a weak Charlotte interior that guys have put up big games against. Whiteside has struggled recently as the Heat have played without Goran Dragic. His price has come down a little, but not a ton. He is a GPP only option for me today.

IF GORAN DRAGIC SITS, then we need to look at Josh Richardson again. Richardson drew the start last game and has the ability to pick up some of the scoring slack while Dragic is out.

Indiana Pacers @ Washington Wizards

Vegas: Wizards -4.5, O/U: 213

John Wall - Wall is not my favorite play on the day, but I think he is worth paying up for. His ownership never seems to be too high on these bigger slates and he is consistently putting up around 50 fantasy points. Indiana plays quick and is not as lock down on defense as many assume. This is a solid spot for him.

Markieff Morris - Otto Porter went nuts last game, but he draws Paul George defense here. That means it could be Morris turn to take a few more shots on the offensive end. His price is still very cheap, but he is more of a GPP play due to volatility of returns.

Bradley Beal - I am a big fan of Beal today too. This is a game which should feature a lot of scoring and Beal can definitely score. In fact, he is also pretty cheap, so I think he might be able to get 5X tonight just on points. The drawback is he rarely does anything besides score, so he still might not have a huge game even if he does go 5X on points alone.
