 Jefe's NBA Rundown - 2/24
Posted by Jeff Collins on Friday, February 24, 2017 - 17:11

As always, the rundown is designed to give you an opinion on some different players or situations in the slate today. You need to be reacting to news throughout the day. Always keep an eye on Twitter for the most up-to-date information. The idea is not that you use ONLY players from this article to build your lineups, but rather all of our content from Benny’s article, to our cheat sheets and videos along with our projections algorithm and optimizer. If you’re trying to only use players under the “cash” section to build your cash lineups for instance, you’re going to have a hard time. Instead, use some of those players as building blocks and fill in around them.

Point Guard

Cash: Westbrook, Delaney, Nelson

GPP: Westbrook, Lowry, Murray (deep GPP)

Washington Wizards @ Philadelphia 76ers

Vegas: Wizards -8, O/U: 217

Wizards: 14th Pace, 7th Scoring, 12th Fewest points allowed

76ers: 8th Pace, 26th Scoring, 8th most points allowed

John Wall - The Wizards are a victim of their own success. They are all incredibly highly priced today and they made some moves to add depth to a team that was taxing the hell out of the starters with huge minutes. I say this because despite the god match up, John Wall is the only Wizard I have interest in. Wall can fill up a stat sheet and has a decent match up here. Every other Wizard is a tad too expensive on a big ten game slate. It’s not that I do not like guys like Beal, Porter, Markieff, and Gortat, but I just do not want to pay the price tags today.

Point Guard

Cash: Lillard, Collison, Lawson

GPP: Lillard, Collison, Lawson, Walker

Notes: The biggest trade of the season was when the Kings traded Cousins to the Pelicans earlier this week. That’s a lot of usage that opens up on the Kings and considering what they got in return, a lot of minutes open for their bigs.

Portland Trail Blazers @ Orlando Magic

Vegas: Blazers -3, O/U: 213

Blazers: 10th Pace, 9th Scoring, 5th most points allowed

Magic: 19th Pace, 29th Scoring, 11th most points allowed

Jusuf Nurkic - Nurkic might be my favorite play here based on price. They saw something that they wanted when they traded for him, so he is going to get minutes. He is dirt cheap at $4300 on DK and did have a solid game in limited minutes in the debut. No Aminu also opens up minutes for any and all frontcourt players.

Notes: I do not love the Blazers in this spot. CJ and Dame are a tad too expensive for me. I would take a tourney flier on One or the other, but not something I want heavy exposure to.

 Countdown Time
Posted by Thad Houston on Thursday, February 23, 2017 - 10:10

Well y'all, the 2017 NBA All-Star break is over. The only person happier than I am, at this point, is my wife. But wait, there's more!  What if I told you I would throw in the trade deadline at no extra cost! Yep. The 2017 NBA trade deadline is almost here... almost. Just like the rest of you, I'm standing around doing the "pee pee dance" waiting to see if any DFS relevant players are on the move.  Here are some tips on how to survive the next 5 hours or so.

Tip #1 - For starters, stop hitting the "refresh" button on your browser to see if Derrick Rose or some other player has been traded. Just stop it. Don't pretend like you're not doing it because I already know that you are.  You don't get awarded points for being the first to hear about a trade and there's more than enough time to digest any roster changes, so chill.

 A Narrative on Narratives
Posted by Thad Houston on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 - 14:45

Let's face it: everyone who plays NBA DFS likes a good narrative. OK maybe not everyone, but most of us can at least agree that professional basketball is a sport in which a player's performance can be affected when he is inspired for one reason or another. If you've ever seen me on one of the afternoon Guru Elite podcasts you know that I LOVE a good narrative (probably more than most). As we anxiously await the NBA trade deadline (and any subsequent trade ramifications), I figured I'd try to keep myself busy and keep everyone entertained by going over a few of my favorite NBA narratives.

THE REVENGE GAME

We've all had some exposure to the "revenge game narrative" even if we haven't realized it. In the modern era of free agency it's hard to keep track of who played for what team and when. This is by far the most popular narrative and one that can have a fair amount of reliability, depending on the player.

 NBA All-Star Slate
Posted by Benny Ricciardi on Friday, February 17, 2017 - 15:56

So I am sure you fellow degenerates are going to play this slate anyway, so there is no need for any of us (myself included) to listen to Tommy telling us not to. He is absolutely right that we shouldn’t be doing this, but you guys do not strike me as the kind of people who are going to listen, so I figured I want as well give you the best edge you can get if you are going to do it anyway. There are no real stats to crunch or pace numbers to look at here, but let me lay out a few situations for you and some players who might benefit from them.

Rookie Game

The Rookie Game is interesting, because each team only has 10 players as opposed to twelve. That means each player should be in line for a few more minutes since everyone should play about the same, with a few studs seeing a little more. That means a $3K punt in the Rookie game is probably better than a $3K punt in the All-Star game and a $10K player in the Rookie Game is better than a $10K player in the All-Star game.

 Jefe's NBA Rundown - 2/16

Obviously not much to cover tonight, but I thought I’d give you a quick idea of how I’m approaching the slate. I don’t think I’ve done this once all year, but I decided to build out 150 lineups tonight and I threw them in the $4 Shot on FanDuel (also some of them in the $12 Q). I’ll list anyone that’s in more than 50% of my lineups in “Main Targets,” most of the other guys that I used under “Others to Consider” and then anyone around 10% owned or less I’ll put under “Differentiators” just so that you guys can see my level of interest and every player that I think is in play. Of course, my lineups could change with any breaking news or random late research that I stumble upon, but you’ll have a really good idea of my approach.

Washington Wizards @ Indiana Pacers

Vegas: Wizards -2.5, O/U: 217

Wizards: 13th Pace, 7th Scoring, 13th fewest points allowed

Pacers: 14th Pace, 15th scoring, 10th most points allowed

John Wall - Since the start of the month, Wall has averaged 39 minutes per game and over 51 fantasy points. He is priced in the $10K range, which makes him a solid cash game guy on this slate with a high floor. The up-tempo pace has done wonders for opposing point men this season and Wall has already averaged over 50 in his three games against the Pacers this season.

Markieff Morris - These two teams played last Friday and Markieff dropped a huge 26 point and 10 rebound double-double on the Pacers for 48 fantasy points. The Pacers frontcourt is banged up right now too, so he should have a soft matchup in a high scoring game.
