 Jefe's NBA Rundown - 12/19

This seems like a really easy cash game slate to me, so I’m curious to see how my picks align with our model when I run it before lock. Tournaments should be fun, though it’s really hard to get off of some of these chalk plays...

Point Guard

Washington Wizards @ Indiana Pacers

Vegas: Pacers -5.5, O/U: 212

Pacers: 11th Pace, 14th Scoring, 12th most points allowed

Wizards: 14th Pace, 11th Scoring, 9th most points allowed

Everyone on Washington - OK, this is a little bit of a stretch, but not really. Ian Mahinmi, Kelly Oubre, and Jason Smith are all questionable here. If those three rotational players are out, we are going to see heavy minutes for the Washington regulars. The last few games all five starters have played 32-38 minutes out of the lack of a bench. John Wall is the likeliest high scorer and is in play. Bradley Beal and Marcin Gortat are also playing around 36-38 minutes along with Wall and that is a ton of court time. Even Otto Porter and Markieff Morris are seeing about 33-35 minutes, so all of them are producing towards their ceiling values. Markieff and Porter project closest to tournament value due to their low prices, but I am honestly considering all five of the starters on my short list today. Keep an eye on the late injury news, because the more guys that sit out, the safer the minutes load becomes for those who are going to play.

Point Guards

1 - Chris Paul - We have a lot of good point guards on this slate, but a lot of them are in tough spots. One guy who the tough spot benefits is Chris Paul. The game should stay close, so he gets the bump from playing his full amount of minutes. John Wall has also been allowing a ton of points to opposing point guards and some big games. I like CP3 a lot today and do not think he is going to be highly owned.

2 - Sergio Rodriguez - the Nets are one of the best matchups a point guard can have. Sergio is cheap as hell on all sites too. With Bayless out, he is seeing big minutes again with only him and McConnell on the roster right now. He is not a sexy play, but the 30+ fantasy point potential will be sexy for your bankroll.

3 - Garrett Temple - Temple has been seeing minutes and posted back to back 30+ point games. He is only $4400 on DK and I see no reason why we should stop rolling him out. I get that Dallas is a slow paced team, but we only need 25 from him to make value.

As always, the rundown is designed to give you an opinion on some different players or situations on the slate today. You need to be reacting to news throughout the day. Always keep an eye on Twitter for the most up-to-date information. Since it’s a shorter slate and there won’t be a cheat sheet, I’ll go back to this format to categorize some more names and summarize everything under “notes”. The show with Thad and myself will break stuff down into a little more depth...

Thad Houston's Saturday DFS Plays 12/17
Posted by Thad Houston on Saturday, December 17, 2016 - 09:30

What's up y'all? This is the one and only RadThad with today's NBA article for Saturday, December 17th. Instead of going game-by-game, let’s go position-by-position. The holidays would be well over if I tried to list every juicy pick, so I'll settle for touching on a couple of my favorite plays from each position playing on the main slate...

Point Guard

Ramon Sessions -- We’ve got Kemba Walker sitting out tonight’s game due to personal reasons, so Sessions gets a boost here. This isn’t a must-play situation like we see with some guys filling in at point guard, but he’s a solid play on both sites. I like him a little more on DraftKings and he’s more of a cash game play than GPP, though he can be used in both if you need the savings. He’s good at setting teammates up, so his assists numbers should impress.

Elfrid Payton -- I’m not sure if there’s anyone out there with a bigger range of outcomes in NBA DFS (maybe Drummond?), but I’m always tempted by the upside. This matchup against the Nets is a dream with them turning the ball over 17 times per game, their pace, and their poor defense. The concern is the minutes and he doesn’t consistently play the same number of minutes each time out. Two of his last six games he’s playing 35+ minutes and in both of those games he scored over 50 DK points. However, seven of his last ten he’s struggled pretty badly. Just know that this is a very risky play if you roster him.

Detroit Pistons @ Washington Wizards

Vegas: Pistons -1, O/U: 203.5

Pistons: 27th Pace, 25th Scoring, 2nd fewest points allowed

Wizards: 13th Pace, 17th Scoring, 10th most points allowed

This is not a great spot for the Wizards playing a paced down game against a good defense. With that being said, the guards have played huge minutes and produced nicely in recent games. John Wall has been consistently dropping 50+ fantasy points regardless of the pace or defensive prowess of their opponents. Bradley Beal has been doing most of his fantasy production with actual points scored, but he has done that well enough to return 5-6X value quite often. This is a lower expected total than normal, which means Wall is the only guy I really want a piece of. Lower totals tend to hurt guys who are scoring dependent like Beal.

Indiana Pacers @ New Orleans Pelicans

Vegas: Pelicans -3, O/U: 210

Pacers: 10th Pace (T), 12th Scoring, 9th most points allowed

Pelicans: 10th Pace (T), 20th Scoring, 7th most points allowed

Jrue Holiday - The matchup is a solid one for Jrue, but the price is creeping up near where it should be. At $6K, he was a guy giving us upside on a regular basis. Not at closer to $7K, I still think he hits value, but may lack the tourney upside that made him so appealing.

Anthony Davis - Big men have murdered this Pacers team. Hassan Whiteside just went nuts on them last night as a good example. The Brow can light up anyone, but he is very interesting when the matchup is soft and the pace is elevated.
