Vegas: Wolves -1.5, 208

Wolves: 18th pace, 14th scoring, 23rd points allowed

Pistons: 20th pace, 19th scoring, 12th points allowed

Wolves: Jimmy Butler was a late scratch last night with a sore throat and a cough. He’s listed as questionable again today. If he is out, it bumps up the usage for guys like Teague, Towns, and Wiggins. If he plays, it bumps them all down a little bit as that is another high usage guy thrown in the mix. This is not a great pace for the game and the Detroit Pistons are solid defensively. My biggest beef with the Timberwolves comes down to pricing. You can not have a lot of exposure here wit these guys all expensive and the Wolves playing at a lower half of the league pace and being only middle of the pack in scoring. There are not enough fantasy points to support a lot of plays. My two favorite are going to remain Karl-Anthony Towns and Jeff Teague. Towns is the main guy here offensively and he also racks up the rebounds. He’s the likeliest high scorer and the guy whose usage goes up without Butler. Teague also saw a usage bump yesterday and is the underrated player the Wolves added to a star studded lineup. Taj Gibson rebounds and finishes rebounds and layups, but he is not a guy they are getting touches to on the offensive end. He does the dirty work and gets his points that way.

Now that we have a few games under our belts this season, it’s time to upgrade our writeup a little. For those who were subscribers last year, this will not be new to you. For those who are just joining us, what I like to do it include three key pieces of information about each team. The first is the Pace number. The Pace number is simply the number of possessions per game. The more possessions, the quicker the pace. Teams playing up in pace get a boost, teams playing down in pace get a slight negative. The more possessions a team has the more opportunities to score fantasy points. It is as simple as that. The other two numbers are points scored and points allowed. Obviously those two speak for themselves. We usually talk about this in terms of league rankings. I do want to caution that we are using a very small sample size since most teams have played about  3 games. As the season goes on, these numbers will normalize, but they can be a tad skewed in the early part of the season based on opponent.

Vegas: Nets -2, 221

Hawks: It's a rare day when the Nets are a favorite in any game. Outside of Dennis Schroder, the Hawks really lack talent. They'll sneak out a few games here and there because they are very well coached, but for the most part, it's going to be a long, long season. They've run out 12 guys in both games and only Schroder has yet to reach 30 minutes, which doesn't bode well for their DFS prospects.

Hey, what's up guys! I'll be filling in for Benny on Saturdays and Sundays. It's the same format as always. There's a bunch of injuries to be aware of for tonight's slate so we'll try to focus on capitalizing on those injuries, especially since the sites came out with pricing before some of the injuries went down.  Let's get after it and make some money!!

Point Guard

Ricky Rubio ($7,100 DK, $7,600 FD) - The Jazz point guard played fewer minutes than I thought he would in the season opener against the Nuggets, but there were perhaps mitigating circumstances in that game that will not repeat gong forward. Rubio started the game off poorly and lost minutes in the first half due to his performance, and in the second half the Jazz bench caught fire and stayed in the game much longer than they typically should. Rubio still saw 32 minutes, but I expect him to see more minutes than that going forward, including in tonight’s game vs. the Timberwolves. The big story here, much more so than the matchup, is it is Rubio’s homecoming game in Minnesota where he spent the first part of his career. Rubio will absolutely be motivated for this game and I expect a big performance out of him in increased minutes. The matchup against Wolves point guards Jeff Teague and Tyus Jones is solid enough, but it really is the narrative that I’m targeting here more than anything. That’s not something I typically do, but this is a special case.

  • Vegas: Blazers -3.5, 225

Blazers: They opened the season by waxing the floor with the Phoenix Suns without CJ McCollum. Small sample sizes are tough, because we do not know if the Blazers are this good or the Suns that bad off of only one game. I suspect a little bit of both is the answer and we will find out tonight.
