 Jefe's NBA Rundown - 12/8

Short slate, but kind of a fun one honestly. Nailing the value will be key, much like we saw the other night with needing to nail the 76ers value.

Point Guard

Expensive: John Wall -- It’s great to see John Wall healthy and playing a lot of minutes right now. He’s coming off of a career high in points (52) to play at home in an even better matchup. This is the big game of the night with the Vegas total set at 218.5 and Washington listed as 5.5-point favorites. You’ve gotta play him in cash, but he’ll be extremely popular if you want to avoid the chalk in tournaments.

Denver Nuggets @ Washington Wizards

Vegas: Wizards -6, O/U: 216

Wizards: 13th Pace, 15th Scoring, 9th most points allowed

Nuggets: 4th Pace, 8th Scoring, 5th most points allowed

John Wall - This is an excellent spot for Wall in a paced up game against a weak defense. He has scored 50+ points in 8 of his last 0 games including a monster 75 fantasy point effort last time out.

Markieff Morris - I like a lot of the Wizards starters a little bit, but most have seen a price jump. The one who has not seen that jump is Markieff. He is priced right around $5000 on both major sites and that is about a $1000+ discount to his other teammates not named John Wall.

Detroit Pistons @ Charlotte Hornets

Vegas: Hornets -5, O/U: 205

Hornets: 13th Pace, 11th Scoring, 13th fewest points allowed

Pistons: 26th Pace, 25th Scoring, 2nd fewest points allowed

I am a little surprised the total is this high. Charlotte is better at home, but I think this game may finish under. Marvin Williams is expected to play here, so some of the big man value we have seen with guys like Zeller and Kaminsky s going to be sapped along with their minutes load.

Nic Batum - He is still a tad too cheap. He is playing really well right now and is in the mid $6K range on both sites. In his last three games he put up 33, 43, and 53 fantasy points. He had a double-double in his last game with 15 rebounds and added in seven assists. The game before that he had 8 rebounds and 12 assists. He is not going to score 30+ points, but the across the board contributions add up quickly to 30-50 fantasy points.

For those of you who use the Optimizer here at Fantasy Guru Elite, you know it has been crushing it lately. You also know that one of the players it keeps spitting out is Rondae Hollis-Jefferson. There has to be a reason why this sophisticated optimizer keeps spitting out this player and I wanted to find out why...

Really short and ugly slate tonight, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t get an edge...

Point Guard

Sergio Rodriguez -- The 76ers are playing very shorthanded tonight, so you’re going to want to grab a couple of the value guys there. You could go with as many as four 76er value plays tonight and have it still make sense. Rodriguez should be more aggressive looking for his own offense with Embiid, Okafor and Covington out. Bayless being out means that he’s good for 30+ minutes tonight.

Orlando Magic @ Washington Wizards

Vegas: Wizards -3.5, O/U: 198

Magic: 25th Pace, 29th Scoring, 3rd fewest points allowed

Wizards: 17th Pace, 18th Scoring, 11th most points allowed

The Wizards are on the tail end of a back-to-back, but I want to start by mentioning this, because of the noise surrounding Wall and Beal’s minutes. Look last week on the last B2B and you will see the minutes were the same. People said they did not play well on the tail end of the B2B, but they faced the Spurs. No one plays their best offensive game against the Spurs.

John Wall - I liked him a ton more yesterday in the paced up game, but he is still one of the better point guards who can contribute across the board. He has a matchup with DJ Augustin and Elf Payton, so it is pretty soft. My beef is the price, I really am not thrilled with paying up that high in a slower paced game.

 Jefe's NBA Rundown - 12/5

Point Guard

Thoughts: This is the position with the most flexibility on the slate. In tournaments, getting the point guards right will be the most critical. I say that because there isn’t a completely obvious play and there are options in every price range.

Russell Westbrook -- A great cash/GPP play for obvious reasons, so the question is just whether or not there’s enough value out there to make him the best option. I like him better on FanDuel since a more balanced lineup on DraftKings usually gives you more upside.

Denver Nuggets @ Philadelphia 76ers

Vegas: Nuggets -4, O/U: 209

Denver: 5th Pace, 9th Scoring, 4th most points allowed

Philadelphia: 16th Pace, 26th Scoring, 6th most points allowed

Neither team is good defensively here, so we should have a lot of solid fantasy stat lines.

Joel Embiid - Embiid is still reasonably priced for his production. The minutes cap is up to 28 and he has averaged 45+ FPts since they raised it last week. Even at 24 minutes, his floor was about 36 or 1.5 Fpts per minute. 40 seems like a reasonable floor assumption give the new minutes constraints.

We have a small four game slate starting at 6PM EST tonight for NBA DFS action. I’m going to walk through the games for you. I use DraftKings as the basis for my analysis, so the pricing I quote is from that site most often.

Orlando Magic @ Detroit Pistons

Vegas: Pistons -7, O/U: 195

Pistons: 25th Pace, 23rd scoring, 2nd fewest points allowed

Magic: 24th Pace, 29th Scoring, 3rd fewest points allowed

This is by far the worst spot for fantasy purposes. The other three games all have totals of 210+ and this one is fifteen points lower.
