The Sweet Spot - Waste Management Open
In order, I like Rickie, Hideki, Spieth, Rahm, JT. Rickie has the price break discount this week, which means he’ll probably be higher owned off the missed cut than he normally would be. Matsuyama has ruled this course for what seems like forever. Spieth has two Top 10 finishes in two appearances, but for some reason, this just doesn’t feel like a course that suits him. I’m still pretty pissed at Rahm for last week’s performance, but that doesn’t make him any less of a good play. He was 5th here as an amateur and placed worse in his first year as a pro. JT hasn’t had much luck here at all in several appearances so he’s an easy fade especially since he has no form coming in to speak of.
- Hideki Matsuyama $11,400: 30% exposure - Hideki is the obvious chalk this week with the back-to-back wins and two other Top 5’s in his course history. In cash, I wouldn’t worry about his ownership and play him blindly. In GPP’s however, you’re probably going to have to draw a line in the sand as far as play or fade. As of writing, I’m torn because I want to play him, but the way he’s been playing isn’t really indicative as he played well for four days in Hawaii on Bermuda, and played like garbage in California on poa/Bentgrass.
