Hot streaks in sports are very attractive and sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in the moment. Auston Matthews scoring four goals in his first NHL game was spectacular but I’d like to think most fantasy hockey players would lean against him having that type of performance in the next game. Now, I’m not saying he’s not a good player or that he won’t score a lot of goals this year, but it’s a streaky sport and sometimes the bounces go your way and sometimes they don’t. This matters when building your Draft Kings lineup because often times people can’t turn their back on the hot player, while having a “what have you done for me lately?” attitude towards players who are running a bit cold. With that in mind, let’s examine the games and look at a few players who have been all around the net but have yet to score their first goal.

After a big 13-game slate on Saturday, we have come back to another 3-game slate for Sunday. This is an interesting one to say the least. The first Saturday of the NHL season was lit. Personally, it was a successful night for me but it could’ve went a lot better; the swings in NHL are a part of the game. It’s important to recognize and acknowledge when luck is on your side. You need luck in hockey to have success so you might as well embrace it...

If last night was any indication of what this season is going to look like – all I have to say is “wow.” It was one wild night, as Auston Matthews scored [four goals] in his NHL debut. Not one, not two, not three, but four! That’s just insane! And then we also had guys like Erik Karlson, Vladimir Tarasenko and Connor McDavid all having monster games. So without further ado, let’s skate into my top stacks, cheat sheet, picks and bold predictions of the night...

Being from the Great White North, it’s easy to forget that not every reader is as familiar with hockey as the average Canadian is. It’s important that we establish an understanding of the basics and go through some of the statistics that correlate with success in the NHL before previewing the games each day. Results often don’t tell the whole story which is why it’s important to examine the underlying numbers. Today we’re going to look at a few statistics to get started and hopefully integrate more in future articles...

A contrarian approach to opening night in the NHL

Daily fantasy hockey is not for the faint of heart, and playing it can take years off of your life…or at least it can feel that way. To say that the game is influenced by randomness would be an understatement. Luck is everywhere all over the ice. A bounce here or a bounce there, and just like that, the game is flipped on its head. The element of luck is one of the reasons hockey fans both love and hate the sport...
