MLB DG: Splits: What Matters?
I am a stats nerd. It is why I have been successful at fantasy sports and why I have made this game my chosen profession. Baseball lends itself to the stat nerds of the world because we have more information and a longer history of that information being tracked than in any other sport. The good news is we can use that history to find the best predictors of success. The bad news is that with so many stats, we get a lot of what scientist call noise in our research. Noise is extraneous information that is unnecessary and wastes our time as we analyze it. What I want to do here is explain which stats you should be focusing on and which of them are just noise. By identifying the statistics that are most correlated to success, we can use them to pinpoint the players we want and create winning teams.
